Last year's Shares4Schools winner
Reading School won the 2007/08 Shares4Schools competition. The group turned their initial investment of £1,500 into a 23.8% profit, leaving them with £1,856.75 when the competition closed on 6 June 2008. The same amount invested in tracking the FTSE® All-share would have returned a loss in the region of 9.3%.
Here's what members of the successful team had to say about their victory:
“The team is really pleased to have won the
competition. We worked well as a team and
managed to pick out successful companies
despite investing in a difficult market.
Shares4Schools has really opened our eyes
to the world of investing and the decisions
you might be faced with – the team and I
definitely want to work in the finance industry
after university“
Ben, student team member
“The competition has allowed our students to
gain experience of investment in the real
world. The team made all of the investment
decisions, based on their research of the firms
and relevant markets. I have been incredibly impressed with their portfolio management,
especially in particularly tough trading
conditions. The learning experience throughout
the competition has been first class”
